Officers Interrupt Parking Lot Drug Deal

An officer on patrol in the early hours Thursday reports he interrupted the completion of a drug deal that had been taking place in the parking lot of a Lawrenceburg supermarket.

Lawrenceburg Police Department reports show that the officer had been patrolling the North Locust Avenue area shortly after 1:00 a.m. when he noticed to vehicles in the Super Rama parking lot, after hours.

The officer indicates there were three individuals in the two cars. He spoke with them, then gained consent to conduct a search of both vehicles.

Inside one of the vehicles, the officer reports finding a bag containing 29.6 ounces of marijuana, concealed inside the center console. When he asked the driver about the contraband he told the officer he didn’t know how the drug got there, that the car did not belong to him, nor did the drugs.

When they spoke with the male occupant of the second vehicle, however, officers report he admitted he had met the man in order to purchase marijuana. He told officers that he never had the chance to do so, however, because they had interrupted the transaction.

As a result of the investigation the pair was released, however the other driver, Brice Douglas Joyner, 18, of 1103 Oakdale Avenue, Lawrenceburg, was arrested on charges of possession of Schedule IV narcotics (marijuana) and possession with intent to sell.

Joyner was transported to the Lawrence County Jail without incident. He is slated to answer the charges through Lawrence County General Sessions Court on June 5, 2009.
