Officers Press Charges For False Claims In Friday Crash

A Lawrenceburg man was charged in connection with a crash that occurred Friday morning, after he allegedly filed a false report regarding the incident.

Lawrenceburg Police Officers report that Christopher D. Grinder, 36, of 1601 Deerhollow Drive, was charged after he stopped by police headquarters to filed the report shortly after 1:00 p.m.

Grinder allegedly told officers he had been traveling westbound on Highway 64 near the entrance to David Crockett State Park when he struck a deer with his red 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe.

Although officers noted damage to the vehicle, they reported finding no evidence such has blood, hair, etc., to support Grinder’s explanation. When they went to the alleged scene of the crash, officers report there finding no debris, tire tracks, or any other indications of a crash.

Officers report that Grinder “did have an odor of alcohol on his breath.” When they questioned him about it, he reportedly told them he had been drinking the night before, but that he had not been drinking that morning.

A brief time later, officers indicate that signs of a crash were located at the Crews Street/Massey Avenue intersection. There, officers discovered damage to a utility pole and a metal utility box. In addition, they report recovering debris from a red Hyundai.

When they checked Grinder’s vehicle, which had been taken to Johnson and Messer Body Shop, they report they were able to match the debris to the vehicle damage. Photos were taken of the debris, vehicle, and utility pole.

As a result of the investigation officers obtained warrants, charging Grinder with the crimes of leaving the scene of an accident and filing a false police report.
