Recycling Business Discovers Transmissions Were Stolen

Officials with a Lawrence County recycling business discovered in recent days that transmissions that had been purchased as scrap, had actually been stolen from an area transmission shop.

Lawrence County Sheriff’s Deputies were summoned to Grimes Recycling, 2665 Waynesboro Highway, where they spoke with Tony Duncan. Duncan reported that a man had come to the business to sell old transmissions to be recycled. He indicated that the man had been paid $56.50 for the scrap.

A time later, Duncan said, they discovered that the transmissions had actually been stolen from Johnston Transmission.

The transmissions were returned to the rightful owner. Duncan was advised to prosecute in order to recover his loss.
