Church Burglar Targets Only Money

A burglar who broke into a Lawrenceburg church building during the weekend was apparently interested only in absconding with money,

A member of Cathedral of Faith summoned Lawrenceburg Police Officers to the Third Street sanctuary shortly before 9:30 Sunday morning. They found that the burglar had gained access to the interior of the church by breaking a window from a basement door.

The member reported that the only thing that appeared to be missing was five dollars that had been left in a small basket near the front door. She told officers that she felt the culprit may have been seeking to take a large jug of money that is normally kept on the stage area. She pointed out that the jug had been removed from the sanctuary for a wedding service. Other valuables, she pointed out, such as television sets, a VCR and computers, were left untouched.

The matter remains under investigation at the present time through the department’s Criminal Investigation Division. Anyone who has information that might assist detectives in their investigation is encouraged to contact the department at 762-2276.
