Hired Hand Makes Off With Payment Before The Job Is Complete

Police officers were asked to step in last week when a Lawrenceburg woman reported her hired hand had made off with his payment before completing his work.

The resident of Kennedy Street reported the matter to officers with the Lawrenceburg Police Department. She indicated she had hired a man to perform construction/renovation work at her home. In payment, the victim said she had promised to sign her 2003 Chevrolet truck over to him once the job was completed.

The victim reported she had allowed the man to use the truck, and that once he had possession of it, he never returned to complete the work. After a while, she said she noticed the title to the truck was missing.

The victim stated she had contacted the man by telephone and he agreed to return the truck, but failed to do so. She stated that she had not sold the truck, nor had she signed any paperwork regarding the truck. She indicated she had, however, applied for a lost title.

The policeman reported he was able to make contact with the man. The man told him that the truck belonged to him but was no longer in his possession. He told the officer the truck could be located at Auto Mart Motors on North Locust Avenue.

The owner and officer were able to locate the truck at the business. The officer advised that the truck remain there until the matter was resolved with the business owner.

Investigation into the matter is currently continuing.
