Relatives Wrestle At Funeral Home

Relatives attending visitation at a Lawrenceburg funeral home became involved in a wrestling match of sorts Monday evening.

Officers with the Lawrenceburg Police Department were summoned to Pettus-Turnbo Funeral Home, 501 West Gaines Street, around 7:30 p.m. regarding a domestic quarrel that had turned physical.

When they arrived officers spoke with one of the men involved. The sixty-seven-year-old Spring Hill resident stated that he had accompanied his wife to the visitation, which was being held for her brother who had passed away.

The man told officers that there was an on-going family dispute, and that some of those in attendance did not want him there.

He reported that his nephew, 32, of Hartselle, Alabama, had asked him to leave. When he refused to do so, he said the younger man pushed him to the floor, then placed him in a “choke hold” and began dragging him toward the door.

The younger man explained to officers that prior to his death his father had requested that the uncle not be present at the funeral home.

He indicated that when he asked him to leave the uncle had shoved him, so he had grabbed him “to keep him from hitting him,” and was attempting to move him away from the rest of the family. He indicated that his actions were intended to prevent the situation from escalating out of control.

Officers noted that neither man sustained injury in the ruckus. The sister and uncle opted to leave the premises while officers were still at the scene.
