Thieves Target Guns In Weekend Burglaries

Burglars who targeted two local homes during the weekend made off with personal property that included several firearms.

On Saturday deputies with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department were summoned to a home located at 611 Weakley Creek Road after one resident returned to find it had been burglarized.

The thirty-five-year-old resident told deputies she had spent the previous night at a friend’s house, returning around 9:00 a.m. to find her home had been burglarized.

The victim indicated she had a difficult time opening the door with her key. Once inside she discovered her grandfather’s room had been disturbed. She found that a trash can had been overturned and her grandfather’s insulin needles had been opened. In addition, she discovered two handguns and a shotgun had been stolen.

Taken were a black, 41 magnum, six-shot handgun and a chrome, Colt, .22 caliber, six-shot revolver, along with a Remington 870, 12 gauge shotgun.

At the time of the crime the female victim indicated her grandfather had been on vacation in Florida.

Officers with the Lawrenceburg Police Department were dispatched on a similar call Sunday. The resident of 406 Clamar Drive told officers he had left around 7:00 a.m., returning around 12:30 p.m. to find the glass broken out of his back door.

A jug of loose change was missing from inside the home, as was the resident’s Marlin, .22 caliber rifle.

Investigation into both crimes is on-going currently. Anyone who has information regarding either is urged to contact the appropriate department; sheriff’s department – 762-3626, or police department – 762-2276.
