Roommate Arrested After Bashing Vehicles

A North Bradley Road resident was taken into custody late last week after he allegedly became irate and began bashing vehicles that belonged to his roommate and an acquaintance.

Jay Allan Ainsworth, 38, of 148 North Bradley Road, was taken into custody on two counts of aggravated domestic assault and two counts of vandalism in the wake of the 11:00 a.m., Friday, incident.

The victims, Ainsworth’s fifty-eight-year-old roommate, and a Pulaski resident, age 48, reported they had pulled into the driveway and that Ainsworth had began yelling at them “for no reason.”

The female victim told Lawrence County Sheriff’s Deputies she made an attempt to leave, but that Ainsworth went into a garage, grabbed a three-foot tire tool, and attempted to strike his roommate.

It was at this point, the woman said, that she got into her 1998 Ford Explorer and locked the doors. She said Ainsworth then shouted at her and began busting out her windows. He then reportedly turned his rage upon his roommate’s 2001 Mitsibushi Montero, smashing the windows in it, as well.

The roommate told deputies as he began to place a 911 call to summon help, Ainsworth “threw down the tool and took off running.” He was located by deputies at 167 North Bradley Road.

Ainsworth was arrested and transported to the Lawrence County Jail where he was booked and processed without incident. He is scheduled to answer the charges against him through Lawrence County General Sessions Court on Monday, March 29, 2010.

Total damages to the vehicles were estimated at $4,000.
