Vandals Break Into Leoma School

Vandals broke into Leoma Elementary School shortly after students were dismissed for Spring Break, leaving graffiti and other damage in their wake.

The vandalism incident is said to have occurred sometime after students were dismissed on Friday. Deputies with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department were dispatched to investigate the crime around 10:30 Sunday morning.

They report a screen on the east side of the building was cut and the vandals spray painted numerous areas throughout the building.

On one wall, reports show the words, “constitution sucks and democracy rules” were painted, “along with other choice words.” School officials explained that when students get into trouble they are required to write off parts of the constitution as a disciplinary action.

The culprits painted chairs, central units, doors and walls. In addition, they broke into a storage building outside the school and stole two cases of toilet paper, which was found strewn throughout the school.

At the time reports were filed the monetary amount of damages had not yet been assessed.
