Leoma Man Arrested For Domestic Assault

A Leoma man was placed under arrest during the weekend for allegedly assaulting his wife inside their home.

Douglas Anthony Gibson, 46, was booked through the Lawrence County Jail Sunday night on one count of domestic assault.

Deputies with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department were sent to intervene in the altercation shortly before midnight. The female victim, age 49, reported that she and Gibson had become involved in a fight during which he pushed her, then struck her. She told deputies that Gibson then grabbed her around the neck, placing her in fear for her life.

The victim stated that she ran to the bedroom and retrieved a gun. She told deputies that she only held the weapon but never pointed it at Gibson. She said that she repeatedly tried to get him to leave, but that he refused. She called his brother, who came to the residence. Still, she said, he refused to leave.

The victim told deputies that it was not until she had placed a 911 call that Gibson left with his brother.

Deputies noted that the victim had sustained red marks about her neck. As a result, Lawrenceburg Police Officers stopped his vehicle and Gibson was placed under arrest. They report that he was transported to the Lawrence County Detention Center without incident.

Gibson is scheduled to appear in Lawrence County General Sessions Court on March 21, 2011.
