Lawrenceburg Woman Arrested For Assaulting Sleeping Boyfriend

A Lawrenceburg woman was arrested last week after she allegedly assaulted her boyfriend while he was sleeping on her couch.

The victim, 27, a resident of Thomas Street, told Lawrenceburg Police Officers that he had been sleeping on the couch at his girlfriend’s home on Clearview Avenue. He said he was waiting for her to return from an evening out with friends.

According to the victim, he was awakened when she walked to the couch and began punching him about the head and face. He said she then grabbed him by the neck and told him to leave. He complied, heading to his home to call for police assistance.

When officers confronted the woman, Nikita Lynn DeJonge, 24, she claimed that the victim had been the one who punched her in the face. She said that when she struck back she was simply defending herself.

DeJonge showed officers visible marks on the right side of her face. Sheriff’s deputies soon arrived on the scene, however, reporting that she had actually sustained the injuries during a fight with another female earlier that evening. Deputies had been called to intervene in that fight.

DeJonge was arrested on charges of domestic assault and transported to the Lawrence County Jail.

Officers requested an investigation by officials with the Department of Children’s Services because the couple’s two small children were sleeping inside the home at the time the altercation occurred. The children were released into the custody of their father.

DeJonge has been scheduled an April 1, 2011 general sessions court date.
