Grand Jury Returns Indictment In Baby Murder Case
A Lawrence County Grand Jury has issued an indictment against a local man accused of murdering his girlfriend’s baby last October.
Two indictments were served to Darion Deonte Stevenson, age 21 of 1016 Old Florence Road, at the Lawrence County Jail on Saturday. Stevenson has remained incarcerated since his arrest in early November in connection with the October 24, 2010 death of nine-month-old Alexxis Swaw Jacobs.
Stevenson was arrested on allegations that, while babysitting at his girlfriend’s Glenn Springs Road home, he rammed the infant’s head into a wall. The incident allegedly occurred while Stevenson was attempting to quiet the child. She was later pronounced dead at Crockett Hospital.
The grand jury opted to return indictments against Stevenson, charging him with one count of second degree murder and one count of domestic assault.
Stevenson is slated for an initial appearance in Lawrence County Circuit Court on April 11, 2011.
