Man lying in ditch is issued marijuana charge
Lawrenceburg Now
A call regarding a man lying in a ditch in the Loretto area ultimately led to the man being issued a citation for possessing marijuana.
Reports filed through the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department show that deputies, along with officers of the Loretto Police Department, responded to an area of Rascaltown Road. While en route, dispatchers informed them that they had received a second call about the man, this one indicating that he “possessed a large machete.” The caller said that he was breathing, but unresponsive.
When deputies arrived, they report that Loretto Police Chief Bobby Joe Killen was in the ditch speaking with the man, identified as thirty-seven year old Kenneth Brannon Olive of 11 Barnett Drive in Leoma. They indicate that he was wearing a backpack and asked to get out of the ditch. The reporting deputy noted, “He appeared to be okay, just in a daze almost as though he had just woke up from a nap.”
Members of the Emergency Medical Service arrived on the scene and cleared Olive of any medical emergencies.
The deputy reports, “I knew Kenneth to be a drug offender and asked him if there was anything illegal in his bag.” Olive agreed to allow a search of the backpack, and deputies seized two small plastic baggies that contained a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana. As a result, Olive was issued a citation for simple possession of marijuana and ordered to appear in Lawrence County General Sessions Court.
