Money Appropriated For North Industrial Park Projects

Lawrenceburg leaders voted during a bi-monthly business meeting Thursday to appropriate $20,000 toward projects associated with development of the city’s north industrial park.

The property, located west of U.S. Highway 43 at the Flattwoods Road intersection, is a portion of the former Murray Test Base. Although the site was designated some years ago for industrial development, to-date no industry has opted to settle at the location.

Plans are currently in the works through the Joint Economic and Community Development Board of Lawrence County to construct a spec building at the site. The City of Pulaski has experienced success in wooing industry to that area once structures were actually on-site. Local officials hope to experience the same type of success here.

Pooling their resources, city and county departments have been working along the Flattwoods Road area, removing trees and demolishing an old fire training facility. Infrastructure must be put into place at the site, including roadways, water detention ponds, drainage channels, erosion control, storm water structures, curb and gutter work, sidewalks, etc.

During Thursday’s meeting of the Lawrenceburg Board of Mayor and Commissioners, Mayor Keith Durham requested that $20,000 of city funds be appropriated to the industrial park projects. The funds were obtained through the sale of the South End Manufacturing building. At the time the decision was made to sell the property, commissioners agreed that the proceeds would be used for industrial development. Leaders with the Lawrence County Board of Commissioners have committed $20,000 to the project, as well.

A list of anticipated expenses to complete the infrastructure projects underway at the site includes the following:  (Note – Durham pointed out that these are estimates only, and that some expenses are expected to be mitigated.)
