Deadline Looming To Pay 2010 And Delinquent 2009 City And County Property Taxes

Local city and county officials would like to remind residents that the deadline to pay delinquent 2009 property taxes is fast approaching.

County Trustee Kylie Weathers explains, “Delinquent 2009 property taxes will be turned over to the Clerk and Master if not paid by the end of the workday on March 31, 2011.” Payments mailed to the office will be accepted if post marked prior to April 1st, and no legal action will be initiated.

City of Lawrenceburg residents may pay their taxes 8:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, at the Lawrenceburg City Administration Building on West Gaines Street. For the sake of convenience, residents may drop payments after hours into the drop box located on the west side of the building.

County property owners may pay their taxes at the Lawrence County Administrative Center on West Gaines Street between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., as well. As a matter of convenience, residents may pay property taxes without leaving their vehicles by using the third lane of the drive-thru.

After-hours payments may be dropped into the drop box, which is located at the east parking lot entrance to the Lawrence County Courthouse.

Weathers points out that his office will continue to collect 2010 taxes until March of 2012, with an additional 1.5% penalty and interest added each month the account remains in arrears.

Officials remind residents that once delinquent taxes have been turned over for collection, they will be subject to penalties, interest and legal fees.
