Three Sought In Check-Cashing Fraud

Three individuals are being sought in connection with instances of fraudulent check-cashing reported by owners of a Summertown grocery store.

Officials with Summertown’s Super Rama store, located at 4953 Highway 43 North, requested an investigation be conducted after finding that five different checks cashed at the store recently were no good.

Reports filed through the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department show that a woman who listed a Lawrenceburg address obtained cash for an already canceled unemployment check on November 2. The incident resulted in a loss to the business of $148.

A second such incident was reported on December 26 when a man who listed his residence as being in Mt. Pleasant also obtained money for a cancelled unemployment check. This incident resulted in a loss of $247.

The third individual of interest reportedly passed three fraudulent checks at the business, between October and November of last year.

The checks, reports show, were printed company checks from C&S Video Security. After having cashed the checks for the man, store officials have now learned that the company is no longer in business.

The man who cashed these checks listed an address in Centerville. Total loss as a result of this ruse was $1,000.
