Two Face Charges In Wake Of Crash

Two individuals now face criminal charges in the wake of a crash in the Old Florence Road area Sunday afternoon.

According to reports filed through the Lawrenceburg Police Department, the crash occurred around 3:40 p.m.

When they arrived at the scene of the crash near the rear of Rick’s Country Store in the Dunn area, officers made contact with Tracy Lynn Shubin, 37, of 515 Highway 64 West. Shubin told officers that she had lost control of her vehicle and flipped it. She indicated that she was the driver and that she had no passengers with her at the time. The statement of witnesses, however, conflicted with that of Shubin.

One witness told officers that a man dressed only in blue jeans and bearing multiple tattoos was also inside the car. When he rushed to the overturned car, the witness indicated that the male subject was lying atop Shubin.

At that time the officer requested that a Be On the Look Out alert was issued for the male passenger. Shortly afterwards a nearby resident came to the scene, stating that she had watched as the man fled from the accident scene. She told officers she was familiar with the man, and was able to identify him.

While the reporting officer continued to work the accident, additional officers went to the suspect’s home. A relative reportedly told them that he was “hiding in the woods” nearby. Officers quickly located the man and took him into custody. They indicate that he admitted he had been inside the car at the time of the crash. They also note that he smelled strongly of an alcoholic beverage.

As a result of the investigation Shubin was placed under arrest on charges of driving on a revoked license, due care, and violation of the open container law. The passenger, Kenneth Brannon Olive, 29, of 11 Barnett Drive, Leoma, was arrested on charges of public intoxication and evading arrest.

Both Shubin and Olive are scheduled for an initial appearance through Lawrence County General Sessions Court on Thursday, April 2, 2009.
