Shoplifter Attempts To Flee From Officers

A Lawrenceburg man who was being taken into custody in the wake of a shoplifting incident late last week garnered additional charges when he attempted to flee from police officers.

Lawrenceburg Police Officers were dispatched to Walmart, 2130 North Locust Avenue, shortly after 4:00 p.m. Friday after store officials detained James Virgle Kirk, 27, of 2201 Fall River Road, alleging that he had been caught shoplifting.

While speaking with him, officers report they learned that there was an outstanding warrant against Kirk. After verifying this through Lawrence Central Dispatch, they informed Kirk that he would be taken to the Lawrence County Jail.

Kirk was handcuffed at this point. Officers report that they were escorting Kirk to a patrol car, but that as they exited the store, he began to run across the parking lot.

Officers report that Kirk was captured a short distance away, then transported to the jail where he was booked without further incident on charges that include evading arrest.

Kirk is scheduled to answer the charge through Lawrence County General Sessions Court on April 3.
