Authorities Investigate Theft Of Wallet From Summertown Store

Local law enforcement officials were asked to open an investigation Wednesday in connection with the theft of a wallet from a shopper at a Summertown store.

The victim reported to deputies with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department that she had been shopping at Summertown’s Dollar General Store on Friday, March 1 when the theft occurred. She said that while paying for her purchases a man got in line behind her.

Without realizing it, she dropped her wallet as she exited the store. The victim said that when she reached her car she realized she did not have her wallet and went back to search, however she was unable to locate it. The victim reported that the wallet contained personal items, identification, and just over $200 in cash.

While reviewing video surveillance of the incident, the victim said she discovered that the man behind her had picked up her wallet as he exited, then left the store with it.

The store manager was able to watch for the man’s return. She told deputies that he returned to the store later and she was able to obtain his license plate number.

Deputies ran a check on the plate number and found that it was registered to a resident of Ethridge. At the time reports were filed they were continuing to investigate the matter.
