Arrest Made During Sunday Domestic Altercation

A domestic altercation that erupted between a husband, wife, and brother in the Summertown area Sunday afternoon, resulted in one man being placed under arrest and another being transported to the hospital.

The female victim told Lawrence County Sheriff’s Deputies that the argument began around 5:45 p.m., after she had called her husband to pick her up from work. She told deputies that he had been consuming alcoholic beverages and that on the way home he began to curse and shout obscenities at her.

When they arrived home, the victim reports that her husband began pounding his fist on the dashboard, and that as they exited the van he began to push and slap her. When she offered resistance, the woman reports that her husband began punching and kicking her, then dragged her across the yard by her hair.

According to the victim, her brother pulled up at that point, saw what was happening, then ran over and began striking her husband in the face multiple times.

Neighbors summoned deputies to the scene of the altercation. When they arrived, deputies report that the husband was having chest pains and became short of breath. He stated that he had a heart condition (which was confirmed by his wife.) Deputies requested that an ambulance be dispatched to the scene. The husband was then transported to Maury Regional Hospital in Columbia.

The brother was placed under arrest on charges of assault and transported to the Lawrence County Jail without incident.

Officials indicate that charges are likely pending against the husband, as well.
