Mailbox Vandals Remain On The Prowl

Despite the arrest of several individuals during past weeks in connection with series of mailbox vandalism incidents, local law enforcement officials continue to be summoned to the homes of those who have been targeted in just such crimes.

Lawrence County Sheriff Jimmy Brown released information recently indicating that two individuals had been arrested in connection with a January mailbox vandalism spree west of Lawrenceburg.

Last week he reported five individuals, four juveniles and one adult, had been charged in connection with a similar spree that had occurred in the area of the Brace community.

Similar incidents have been reported in various areas of the county, including a report filed Tuesday by a resident of the Five Points area.

Resident William Burrel Huffman reported to sheriff’s deputies that vandals had demolished three mailboxes on his properties. Deputies reported that it appeared the mailbox at Huffman’s 89 Legg Road residence was run over by a vehicle. The culprits then drove through the yard of a neighbor across the roadway.

Huffman reported that damages to his property alone totaled around $400. Investigation into the crimes is continuing at the present time. Anyone who has information regarding such crimes is urged to contact the department at 762-3626.
