Landlord Finds Property Stolen, Dogs Left Inside To Die

Law enforcement officials are working to determine whether animal cruelty charges will be filed against a local couple accused of leaving their dogs to perish, locked inside a home from which they had moved.

The matter was reported Tuesday to deputies from the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department. The landlord, a resident of Waterloo Road, told deputies the matter had taken place at a property on South Chisholm Creek Road.

According to the landlord the couple who had been renting the property moved out on February 1. He was notified by a neighbor on February 27 that the couple had left two dogs to die, locked inside the home.

When he went to the property to investigate, the landlord said he found that someone had also emptied the ashes from his Wood King stove into the floor and stole it.

Detectives with the department’s Criminal Investigation Division are tasked with further investigating the matter.
