Officials Indicate Sex Offender Report Was Made In Error

A report filed by law enforcement officials during the weekend regarding a local man being in violation of the sex offender registry was apparently the result of an error on the part of another agency.

Officials were notified by an anonymous caller Saturday that a local man listed on the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation Sex Offender Registry was not residing at the listed address. While the man was listed as living on Genson Road, the caller indicated he had moved to a home on  First Street in Lawrenceburg.

While no charges were filed against the man at the time the report was filed, officers had noted their intent to verify the information.

Lawrenceburg Police Chief Judy Moore said Tuesday that the matter had been further investigated through her department and that it appears an error was made by some agency.

The case, which originated in Wayne County, was dismissed in January of 2009. The man’s name, therefore, should have been removed from the Sex Offender Registry; however it was not.

Moore said that representatives of her department contacted TBI Monday to report the error and explained that the man’s information needed to be removed from the registry.
