Loretto resident mistakes burglar for contractor
Lawrenceburg Now
A Loretto resident spoke with law enforcement officers last week, indicating that she had apparently mistaken a burglar for a contractor.
Deputies with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department were summoned to a St. Mary Road home where they spoke with the victim. She said that she had heard someone knocking on her back door.
When she opened the door, she said she saw a man standing beside a black SUV that was parked beneath her carport. She said she asked the man for his name, but that he was mumbling incoherently. He eventually stated, “I told you this was a bad idea; I’m not going to wait any longer.”
The victim explained to deputies that she had just sold her home and had assumed that the man was a contractor sent there by the new owner. She said she went inside to call the new owner, but did not do so after she heard the vehicle leaving.
Reports show that the victim laid down to take a nap. When she awoke she found a skillet from her house lying underneath the carport. She told deputies that she suspected that the man had actually been breaking into her home and had dropped the skillet while leaving.
Later in the evening the victim discovered that a window on her garage had been raised and said that it appeared to be the way by which someone gained entry.
At the time reports were filed the victim was working to determine what, if anything, had been stolen. The investigation is on-going.
