Press Release

On February 23, 2013 several arrests were made at the conclusion of an extensive investigation conducted by investigators with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department’s Narcotics Unit, members of the Lawrence County Correctional staff and investigators with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department.

During the course of the investigation information was obtained alerting correctional staff to the possibility of contraband being introduced into the Lawrence County Detention Center.

The contraband was learned to be prescription medication and illegal narcotics.  Inmates were communicating with subjects outside the detention center, via telephone and video visitation, arranging for the contraband to be brought in through their personal property.

Correctional staff members immediately notified the Criminal Investigation Division and narcotics investigators were assigned the investigation.

As a result of this investigation four inmates were charged.  Michael G. Lynch, 30, of Gainesboro, TN (Jackson County) was charged with Introduction of contraband into a penal institution and criminal conspiracy,

Kyle D. Davis, 32, of Iron City, TN was charged with Attempted Introduction of contraband into a penal institution and criminal conspiracy,

and Christopher Prince, 40, of Lawrenceburg, TN was charged with Introduction of contraband into a penal institution.  Lynch, Clayton, Davis, and Prince are all still incarcerated at the Lawrence County Detention Center.

Also as a result of the investigation persons on the outside were arrested for their involvement in the introduction of contraband into the penal institution.  Clorene Allen, 77, of Gainesboro, TN (Jackson County) was charged with Introduction of contraband into a penal institution and criminal conspiracy,

Shirley Allen, 52, of Gainesboro, TN was charged with criminal conspiracy, Michael R. Lynch, 54, was charged with Introduction of contraband into a penal institution and criminal conspiracy,

Clorene Allen, Shirley Allen, Michael R. Lynch and Stooksberry are currently being held in the Lawrence County Detention Center on bonds ranging from $100,000 to $200,000.

Carrol was released on a $100,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Lawrence County General Sessions Court in the coming weeks.

Investigators also arrested Mallory Wooden, 23, who has connections to Madison, Alabama and Hohenwald, TN.

Wooden was charged with Possession of Methamphetamine for resale, attempted introduction of contraband into a penal institution, possession of drug paraphernalia, and Haley’s Law (child abuse as result of the methamphetamine charge).

Wooden was arrested after delivering an eight ball of methamphetamine (3.5 grams) to a subject who was to get the contraband into the detention center.

Wooden’s four year old child was with her during the drug transaction.  A referral was made to the Department of Children’s Services and the child was released to family members.  Wooden is also being held at the Lawrence County Detention Center on a $101,000 bond.

Sheriff Brown would like to thank the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department for their cooperation and assistance in this investigation and to commend the efforts of his correctional staff for their diligence in keeping contraband out of the detention center.

If this type of contraband makes it into the facility it creates dangerous situations, not only for the staff, but for other inmates as well.
