Arrest Leads Officers To Discover Thefts From Local Business

While police officers were arresting a local man on an outstanding warrant Wednesday they discovered that he had apparently been involved in thefts of merchandise from a local business.

Officers with the Lawrenceburg Police Department report that the arrest was made around 11:20 a.m. They report stopping a vehicle that was pulling onto North Locust Avenue when they recognized the passenger as a person against whom there were active arrest warrants.

Officers arrested Timothy Mark Loyd, 32, of 739 Turnpike, on the outstanding warrant. Once the driver had given consent officers conducted a search of the vehicle and found a total of 18 plastic wrappers from new DVDs. The wrappers indicated that the items had come from the Dollar General Store location on North Locust Avenue.

The driver told officers that Loyd had stolen the items then sold them to a nearby business. Officers were able to recover all 18 DVDs and return them to the proper owner. The value of the items was placed at more than $150.

Loyd was transported to the Lawrence County Detention Center where he was booked under the outstanding warrant along with a charge of theft. He was scheduled an initial appearance in General Sessions Court on March 6, 2014.
