Domestic Altercation Call Yields Drug Arrest

Law enforcement officers dispatched to intervene in a domestic altercation early Sunday morning arrested one of the individuals involved on drug charges.

Deputies with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department were called to 993 Highway 64 West just before 5:00 a.m. When they arrived the female victim reported she and her boyfriend had become involved in an argument earlier.

She said the argument escalated until he put his hand around her throat and choked her, then pushed her onto the ground. She told deputies that when she was able to, she walked outside to call for help.

Deputies report finding the suspect, Doyle Kevin Slater, age 44, in his bed, “apparently asleep.” Once awakened, deputies indicate that Slater, “Displayed common extreme behavior of a person who recently ingested methamphetamine.” They noted that he was, “Unable to stand still and was acting extremely nervous.”

Reports show that deputies noticed various items lying about the bedroom and just outside the doorway, that are commonly associated with the use of meth.

During a subsequent search of the bedroom reports show they found a metal box that contained bags of meth along with numerous items of drug paraphernalia.

Slater was transported to the Lawrence County Detention Center where he was booked under charges that include aggravated domestic assault, possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of resale, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was scheduled an initial appearance in Lawrence County General Sessions Court on March 19, 2013.
