Traffic Stop Leads To Drug Charges

   A traffic stop conducted by Lawrenceburg Police officers during the weekend resulted in charges being issued against both vehicle occupants.

   According to reports filed through the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department the traffic stop was initiated around 1:30 at the Columbia Avenue/East Taylor Street intersection.

   The officer reports that when the driver lowered his window a strong smell of marijuana was evident. He reports that he asked both occupants whether there was any marijuana inside the vehicle.

They told him that there was some in the glove compartment as well as the center console. The contraband was seized along with some rolling papers and cigars.

   Driver Levi Coltin Kelley, age 20, of Hayes Road, Lawrenceburg was issued citations on charges of simple possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and violation of the window tint law.

   Passenger Matthew Dylan Gambrell, 19, of Mt. Ararat Road was cited on charges of simple possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

   Both Kelley and Gambrell are scheduled to answer the charges in Lawrence County General Sessions Court on March 6, 2014.
