Driver Arrested During Friday Traffic Stop

A motorist was arrested, the vehicle he was driving seized, when police officers conducted a traffic stop Friday evening.

Officers with the Lawrenceburg Police Department report that the traffic stop was made in a parking lot on North Locust Avenue at around 7:00 p.m.

Officers report that they noticed a motorist was traveling at night without his lights on, and had the driver pull over.  They informed the driver, twenty-seven year old Nathaniel Wayne Holland of Beurliene Circle, that he needed to turn his lights on and that the window tint on the vehicle exceeded legal limits.

Holland informed officers that his driver license had been revoked in connection with DUI charges. He was subsequently arrested on charges that include driving on a revoked license, violation of the window tint law, and violation of the light law.

The passenger, Courtney Ann Handlin, 20, of Earnest Avenue told officers that the vehicle belonged to her. She said that she was aware that Holland’s license had been revoked but had not felt well and had asked him to drive.

Handlin gave consent for a search of her 2008 Nissan Sentra. Inside, officers report finding a spoon that bore white residue on the floor and a basket on the back seat that contained a marijuana roach.

Handlin claimed ownership of the roach and told officers that she had a gram of marijuana in her pocket, as well.

Handlin was issued citations charging her with the crimes of simple possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and allowing an unlicensed driver to drive.

Both Holland and Handlin have been scheduled an initial appearance in Lawrence County General Sessions Court on March 6, 2014.
