Resident Reports Traded Vehicle Is Repossessed

A local woman filed a complaint with law enforcement officials on Tuesday after the vehicle for which she had traded was repossessed.

The victim, age 20, told deputies with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department she had traded her 1999 GMC Yukon for a Cadillac, just a few days prior. She said she traded vehicles with the man on January 28, but that they had not yet swapped titles.

She said the man had a lien against his car, and that they had planned to swap titles after he had his title in-hand. The victim reported that before the title swap occurred, however, the vehicle was repossessed.

Reports show that the victim had contacted the man on numerous occasions, but that she had been unable to retrieve her vehicle. She told deputies she had received a text from the man’s girlfriend saying that he had been jailed.

The text said that her vehicle was with a man in Mount Pleasant. She told deputies she was able to contact the man, but that he said he knew nothing about her vehicle.

The victim expressed her intent to pursue legal action through civil court. She told deputies her vehicle is valued at approximately $1,200.
