Deceased Man’s Signature Forged On Vehicle Title

A Lawrenceburg woman reported to law enforcement officials this week that she had learned that an acquaintance had forged the signature of her deceased husband in order to gain ownership of his truck.

The victim, age 45, told Lawrenceburg Police Officers Monday that her husband had died on October 6, 2006. She stated that she had only recently learned that the forty-nine-year-old suspect had registered the title to her husband’s 1991 Ford F-350 rollback truck, in his name at the Lawrence County Courthouse on March 26, 2007.

The victim told officers that her husband had not sold the truck prior to his death, but that the title showed it had been purchased by the suspect on November 28, 2005. She indicated that the suspect had forged her husband’s signature on the title, as if he were authorizing the sale of the vehicle, in order to gain ownership.

The victim indicated that the suspect has driven the truck numerous times since her husband’s death.

She expressed her intent to seek prosecution in the case.
