Authorities Eye Instance Of Animal Cruelty

   Local authorities were summoned to a rental house this week after witnesses discovered the residents had moved away and left a dog tied to the front porch without food or water.

   Lawrence County Sheriff’s Deputies made their way to the 3885 Waynesboro Highway house around 2:30 Monday where they met with the complainant. He reported that the couple who had lived inside the house had moved to an address on Byrd Road four days before. He had discovered that the couple had left their pit bulldog chained to the front porch. To the best of his knowledge, the dog had had no food or water during the four day period.

   Deputies went to the Byrd Road address, but report they were unable at that time to make contact with anyone.

   The matter presently remains under investigation through department’s Criminal Investigation Division.
