Suspect Who Pistol Whipped Summertown Man Sought By Authorities

Law enforcement officials in neighboring Maury County are seeking information in the hopes of identifying and apprehending the individual who pistol-whipped a Summertown man at a Columbia gas station last weekend.

Police reports filed through the Columbia Police Department show that officers were dispatched to the emergency room at Maury Regional Medical Center around 5:00 p.m. Saturday, where they spoke with victim Rick C. Parsons, 39. Parsons, they report had sustained wounds to the head, including a severe facial laceration.

They indicate they were able to glean information during Parsons’ brief moments of consciousness. In addition, they interviewed Parsons’ girlfriend, Kellie Ruiz, about the incident that led to his injury.

Reports show Ruiz told officers Parsons had stopped to purchase gasoline at Miss Annie’s Market. After pulling into the parking lot, Ruiz said they realized the market was no longer in business.

She said that Parsons stepped out of vehicle and that a young man struck him in the face with a handgun. She said that she was uncertain why Parsons was attacked, but felt robbery might have been the motive.

Ruiz described the suspect as a young white male, approximately 5 foot 8 inches tall with a slight build. At the time, she said he was wearing a sleeveless shirt, sunglasses and a cap that was turned sideways.

Once emergency medical attention was given, Parsons was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville.

Investigators have issued a plea for information in the case. They ask that anyone who might have witnessed the incident or who was in that vicinity between 4:00 and 5:00 p.m. Saturday, contact the detective’s division at 931-380-2721.
