Traffic Stop Results In Meth Charges Against Two

A traffic stop conducted by law enforcement officials in southern Lawrence County has resulted in marijuana and meth charges being placed against both vehicle occupants.

Reports show that the traffic stop was conducted by members of the Loretto and St. Joseph Police Departments on Friday. As they approached the 1995 Buick, officers report they could smell the strong odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle.

Having established probable cause, officers then conducted a search of the car’s interior. Inside, they report finding two partially smoked marijuana cigarettes and a coffee filter that contained the drug methamphetamine.

As a result of the traffic stop vehicle occupants Christopher Allen Smith, 27 and Anthony James Smith, 18, were arrested on various drug charges. Both are scheduled to answer the charges in Lawrence County General Sessions Court during the month of March.
