Leoma Man Arrested On Vandalism Charges

Authorities took a Leoma man into custody on Wednesday after he broke windows out of a house to provide the residents some “fresh air.

Deputies with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department report that they were called to a home on Lambs Ferry Road regarding a man walking around in the yard in what appeared to be a confused state.

Deputies report that the fifty-eight year old man gave them his name and address. He told them that he had been walking his dogs when he began smelling “a strong odor of methamphetamine being cooked.”

He told deputies that he was having trouble breathing because of the odor. When offered, however, he declined having an ambulance brought to the scene. He also declined when deputies offered to take him to a hospital.

The reporting deputy noted, “I did not observe any strange odor while in this area.”

The man told deputies that he had raised his windows at a house down the road, pointing in that direction. They went to the nearby home and found a broken bar stool and three broken windows. Deputies report, “It was apparent that the bar stool had been used to break the windows out.”

When deputies asked the man about what had happened at the home, he reportedly said that he had, “Smelled meth and thought someone may be inside the house and wanted to give them some fresh air.”

The man was taken into custody on vandalism charges and transported for evaluation.
