Post Office Vandalized

Vandals struck at the U.S. Post Office situated on North Locust Avenue in Lawrenceburg overnight Thursday, causing damage to a mail carousel.

Officers with the Lawrenceburg Police Department were dispatched to the scene around 6:45 Friday morning, once the damage was discovered. Post Master Lori Cook indicated that a post office box carousel had likely been left unsecured, allowing access to all those who entered the post office box

area.

Cook explained that the carousel is used only by employees to access individual post office boxes. The doors are spun around 180 degrees and secured  at the end of each day in order to prevent access to the mail area from the outside.

Sometime between 5:00 p.m. Thursday and Friday morning, Cook reported that someone apparently bent two thin metal doors, gaining access to the mail area. She stated that it is unknown whether any mail is missing.

Cook told officers that all post office box holders in the affected area will be contacted in order to see if any mail is missing. She indicated she had already notified postal inspectors.
