Commission And School Board Consider Coffman Field Arrangement

Members of the Lawrenceburg City Commission and the Lawrence County School Board are considering entering into a mutually beneficial agreement that would allow for greater use of the newly-reconstructed football field at E.O. Coffman Middle School.

City crews have been performing work at the field for some months, installing a series of box culverts that run beneath the field, tying the city’s multi-million-dollar flood alleviation system into nearby Shoal Creek. The construction required that the field, which had been rendered unusable in years past due to flooding, be dug up and completely reconstructed. The concrete bleachers, snack stand, and press box were demolished per instruction of the school board.

With the project now completed, the field has been newly sewed and will soon be ready for use.

Under the agreement proposed by the school board the City of Lawrenceburg would lease the field, yet the school would still retain full access. The arrangement, officials say, would be similar to one already in place regarding use and upkeep at the Lawrence County High School soccer field.
