Son Admits Stealing Belongings, Car Titles

A Lawrenceburg couple reported to authorities Friday that their son had apparently stolen numerous items from inside their home, along with both their car titles.

Officers with the Lawrenceburg Police Department responded to the Gallaher Boulevard home, where residents explained that their son, age 34, had been living with them. After going into the basement, the father stated, he discovered that numerous items were missing. A check of the home revealed that items were missing from throughout the home.

The father explained that he had discovered both their car titles were missing. He indicated that he checked with the local Title Max and discovered that the titles had been pawned there.

When officers spoke with the manager they learned that the son had, in fact, brought in both titles and received a lean against them. The manager told officers, however, that the titles had been in the son’s name, not the father’s.

Officers noted that they were “uncertain if the crime of forgery had been committed” or if it was “some other type of fraud that occurred at the courthouse.”

Altogether, officers estimate that nearly two thousand dollars worth of the couple’s belongings were taken from their home. A number of power tools were stolen, along with a rifle, shotgun, leaf blower, air compressor, cameras, and a video camera.

The father told officers that he had confronted his son about the missing items earlier, and that he had admitted he had taken them.

Officers note that the son was not present at the time reports were filed. No charges were filed at that time. Detectives with the department’s Criminal Investigation Division have been tasked with investigating the matter further.
