Investigators Delve Into Animal Poisoning Complaint

Law enforcement officials are investigating a possible animal poisoning case that was reported through the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department on Wednesday.

A resident of Summertown’s Dugout Road told deputies that her Jack Russell Terrier had died around 3:45 p.m., from what she believed to be ingestion of some type of poison.

The victim told deputies that her dog had retrieved a small container from a ditch in front of her home earlier that day. She said she believed it had contained poison, and that the dog did ingest some of it. She said that he immediately fell ill, then died a very short time later.

Investigation into the matter is currently continuing through the department’s Criminal Investigation Division.
