Nephew Says Uncle Was Trying To Run Him Down But Crashed Into Tree

Law enforcement officials have issued warrants against a local man accused of attempting to run down his nephew with a car before crashing into a tree Saturday.

The nephew, age 23, placed a 911 call for help at 2:11 p.m., reporting he had narrowly escaped being run down by his uncle. He told Lawrenceburg Police Officers responding to the call that his uncle, Noah Christopher Russ, age 50, of 89 Tingle Trapp Road, had been texting him throughout the day, asking to borrow $20.

The victim said he told his uncle he did not have the money he needed, but that he continued to insist. In one text, he said Russ told him he “had two hours to get the money” and “that he was watching him.” When he mentioned obtaining a restraining order, he said Russ told him “if he talked to the law he would end up in jail and I would end up in the hospital.”

The victim reported he had left his Poplar Drive home to run errands. While at two different businesses, he said he noticed his uncle was following him. When he returned home at the end of the two hours the victim reports he received a text message that read “times up.”

The victim stated that his mother was standing near the end of the driveway and that he was walking in her direction in order to retrieve his mail. He said he “heard squealing tires,” looked up and saw Russ’s vehicle “flying toward me.” He reports that he ran behind a nearby tree just before Russ crashed into it. He wrote in a statement, “I believe if the tree had not been there I would have been struck by the vehicle.”

A witness reported that Russ had been traveling around 20 to 30 miles per hour when he turned into the driveway, tried to run down the victim, “but instead he hit the tree.”

When officers made contact with Russ at his home they report he was “attempting to repair the damage to his vehicle.” He disputed the account, saying that he had merely experienced a seizure, then crashed into the tree.

As a result of the investigation officers obtained state warrants charging Russ with one count of leaving the scene of an accident as well as violation of the state insurance law. Additional charges may be forthcoming.
