Resident Interrupts Vehicle Burglary; Arrest Made

An arrest was made in connection with a vehicle burglary in the Summertown area Sunday morning after the owner scared away the perpetrator.

Deputies with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department answered the 8:46 a.m. call to 315 Cardinal Way where they spoke with the victim, age 40. She told deputies she had looked out to find a white female wearing camouflage overalls carrying her car speakers away from her car.

When she saw that the woman had spotted her, the victim said the woman laid down the speakers and fled into some brush near the rear of her home. After a time, she reported seeing a woman wearing a white shirt exit the area, running northeast.

The victim told deputies that a cup filled with change was missing from inside her car along with her cell phone charger.

While checking the brushy area, deputies report finding a pair of overalls, socks, and five compact discs that had been discarded. The victim’s speakers were recovered at the rear of her home along with the cup of change and the charger.

Deputies indicate they located a food stamp card in a pocket of the overalls bearing the name of Sarah Elizabeth Brewer, a twenty-two-year-old resident of 106 Bluff Drive, Lawrenceburg. Warrants were obtained, charging Brewer with the crimes of burglary, theft of property and vandalism.

She was later arrested at 195 College Street, Summertown. Although she admitted taking the items from the car, Brewer explained that she had “laid them down while she was still on the victim’s property” because she “thought she would get in trouble.”

Brewer was transported to the Lawrence County Jail where she was booked and processed without incident. She is scheduled for an initial appearance in Lawrence County General Sessions Court on March 8, 2010.
