Facebook Chat Leads To Charges Against Three Lawrence Teens

A chat session on Facebook is apparently what prompted a weekend investigation, and pending charges against the three teens involved.

A Lawrence County Sheriff’s Deputy reports that he was on his way to work around 5:30 Saturday morning when he noticed a truck that was parked off the roadway along Beechwood Drive. The deputy reports he flashed his spotlight in that direction and found that there was a young man in the driver seat.

When questioned, the young man, age 19, told the deputy he was sitting on the side of the road, “waiting to go to work.” He explained that he was scheduled to begin his shift at a Lawrenceburg store some 4 ½ hours later; 10:00 a.m.

When the deputy requested permission to search the teen’s truck he agreed, but said that there were two girls inside. The girls were unable to provide identification, but admitted they were both only 14 years old.

All three teens maintained that they had been chatting on Facebook earlier and the young man had met them “to bring them some Chapstick.” The girls said they had climbed out their bedroom window in order to meet the teen at the roadway. They said they had decided to “ride around the bock” and had parked on the side of the roadway so they could talk.

Reports show the deputy proceeded to conduct a search of the truck and found a “glove box full of condoms and a pair of panties.”

The two minors were returned to their homes and released into the custody of their parents. The nineteen-year-old was allowed to go home while investigation continued.

Ultimately officials determined that a criminal summons will be issued against the teenage boy on charges of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, and that an unruly juvenile summons will be issued against each of the two girls.
