County Leaders To Meet In Regular Session Tuesday

Lawrence County legislators scheduled to meet in regular session Tuesday are asked to consider approval of thirteen separate resolutions governing county business.

County commissioners are asked to approve funding of up to $7,500 for a waterline extension on Johnson’s Lane in Loretto, adopt a Code of Ethics for members of the county commission, and adopt a Policies and Procedures Manual.

They will consider whether to turn over delinquent Solid Waste Disposal Fees accounts to a collection agency, and whether to amend an ordinance governing the funding of cell phones with county monies.

Commissioners Neely Luna and Ronnie Taylor have sponsored a resolution, “Requiring every budget amendment that requires additional funds to a budget line item and the transfer of funds from the General Fund for such budget amendment to be brought before the county legislative body as a separate resolution.” They are also the sponsors of a resolution that would, “Direct the County Executive for Lawrence County to furnish copies of all checks or warrants written on Lawrence County between the dates of March 26, 3013 and June 25, 2013 that resulted in a particular line item of a departmental budget to be in excess of the budgeted amount.”

Commissioners are asked to approve a resolution to enter into an agreement for the sale or lease of property in Team Lawrence Commerce Park, and to create a committee for the study of future economic development.

Also appearing on the agenda are resolutions to amend the 2013-2014 Lawrence County Budget, approve a county road list, recommend a delinquent tax attorney, and elect members to fill vacancies on the Board of Equalization.

In addition to resolutions recommended by the Resolution Committee, five resolutions appear on the agenda regarding various memorials and honorariums.

These include the naming of a bridge on Highway 20 the “George ‘Pappy’ Davis Memorial Bridge,” naming a section of Highway 240 the “Vivian Shields Memorial Highway,” honor Teresa Dunking for being named Register of the Year, honor Tanya White on passing the certification exam of Administrators of Elections, and honor those who were instrumental in securing grant funds to create a four-county recycling hub locally.

The commission will convene at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 28, 2014 at the Lawrence County Courthouse. The meeting is open to the public.
