Suspicious Driver Nets Stop, Arrest

   A Lawrenceburg police officer initiated a stop on a suspicious driver in recent days, resulting in the seizure of illegal drugs and contraband, as well as the arrest of the driver.

   Lawrenceburg Police Chief Terry Shay reported Wednesday that the case was made through his patrol unit on January 12. He indicated that an officer on routine patrol noticed the driver traveling along Crescent Factory Road, on a flat tire. He indicated, “The vehicle was traveling approximately five miles per hour and the rim had begun to make contact with the pavement.”

   According to a press release, the officer noticed the driver moving about inside the automobile in a manner which made him suspect the driver was attempting to conceal some type of contraband. During the stop, the officer conducted a search of the vehicle, and reports finding a number of illegal drug-related items.

   Seized during the stop was approximately 36 grams of marijuana, four grams of crack cocaine, a set of digital scales, a Samsung cell phone, a 1982 Chevrolet Caprice, and $730 in cash believed to be proceeds of illegal drug sales.

   The driver, Michael Grandberry, Jr., 23, of 526 Frierson Lane, Mt. Pleasant, was placed under arrest on charges of possess of marijuana for the purpose of resale and possession of crack cocaine for the purpose of resale. He was transported to the Lawrence County Jail where he was held without bond on a parole violation through Maury County. Authorities indicate that at the time of his arrest, Grandberry had been on parole through Maury County for similar offenses.

   Grandberry will be required to answer the charges against him through Lawrence County General Sessions Court.
