Lawrenceburg Man Arrested In Wayne Drug Operation

A Lawrenceburg man is among the more than forty individuals arrested in the past week in connection with an extensive drug operation undertaken in neighboring Wayne County that targeted the sale of prescription pills.

The majority of arrests in what has been dubbed “Operation Unnecessary Medicine” were made last weekend. During that roundup law enforcement officials report arresting approximately thirty individuals. In the ensuing days police officers have been working to serve warrants against the remaining fifteen persons.

During the week, officers indicate that some eleven individuals were arrested on drug charges, including Charles Moore of 603 Third Street, Lawrenceburg. Authorities still have active warrants against four persons, which they plan to serve in coming days.

The four-month long operation, authorities say, targeted mostly individuals accused of dealing prescription drugs obtained by “doctor shopping.” Many, they indicate, would go from doctor to doctor in the region, seeking prescriptions for pain medications. They estimate that those apprehended to date were moving between 4,500 and 5,000 pills per month.

Moore will be required to answer the charges against him through Wayne County General Sessions Court.
