Deputy Threatened While Investigating Telephone Harassment

A Lawrence County Sheriff’s Deputy investigating an instance of telephone harassment reports he received threats from the suspect on Wednesday.

The complaint was filed by a resident of Gwinn Road in Ethridge. The female complainant reported she had been receiving numerous calls, harassing in nature, from a man who wanted her to hand over some of his property. She told deputies that she was not in possession of his property and had told him not to continue to call her.

While he was taking the victim’s report, the deputy indicates that the man in question telephoned the home four more times. When the deputy spoke with the man in an attempt to dissuade him from continuing to make the calls, he reports that the man began to make verbal threats to assault him.

After a time, the deputy reports the man telephoned again, asking that he meet him at The Owl’s Nest; a club in Ethridge. Once there, the man said he would then assault the deputy.

The deputy reports that he and a second deputy made their way to the club, but that they were unable to locate the caller.

Investigation into the matter is continuing at the present time. The victim indicated to the deputy that she would be obtaining a criminal summons against the caller.
