Search Yields Drug Charges Against Lawrenceburg Man

A recent search of a Lawrenceburg home led to the arrest of the resident on theft and drug charges.

Anthony Ray Burls, 54, was arrested in the wake of a search of his 1724 Liberty Avenue home.

Reports filed through the Lawrenceburg Police Department show that drug agents made their way to Burls’ home in late December to execute a search warrant.

During the search agents report seizing a plastic bag containing some 44.8 grams of marijuana, including marijuana roaches, concealed beneath Burls’ mattress. Cash totaling $579, believed to be proceeds of illegal drug transactions, was seized from the pocket of Burl’s coat.

In addition, agents report seizing a .22 caliber Ruger rifle from Burls’ bedroom closet. A check revealed that in the past the gun had been reported stolen.

Burls was arrested and transported to the Lawrence County Detention Center where he was booked under charges of theft of property and possession of Schedule VI narcotics for the purpose of resale. He was incarcerated at the facility in lieu of a $25,000 bond.
