Amish Man Reports Motorist Attempted To Rob Him

A resident of the Amish community in Ethridge flagged down a deputy Sunday to report a motorist had stopped and attempted to rob him while wielding some type of metal pipe.

The incident reportedly occurred along Brewer Road. Victim Maylon Yoder, a resident of Mt. Horeb Road, flagged down the deputy at the Campbellsville Pike/U.S. Highway 43 intersection shortly before midnight.

He indicated that he had been traveling along Brewer Road earlier when the driver of a dark color Ford Ranger stopped and a man exited the truck.

Yoder indicated that the man was wielding a tire tool or long piece of metal pipe and demanded he hand over his money.

At that point, Yoder told the deputy he shined his flashlight into the man’s face and he turned and fled, climbing back into the truck. He said that the driver left, heading southbound on Brace Road.

While the deputy was speaking with Yoder, he reports that a dark color small truck pulled off Brewer Road, heading north.

At that point, the deputy reports Yoder told him that was the truck in which his assailant was traveling.

The deputy quickly initiated a traffic stop, stopping the driver a short distance away. The deputy reports there were three individuals inside the truck; two men and a woman.

When he questioned them about the incident, he reports they all denied having been involved.

The deputy reports he obtained permission to conduct a search of the vehicle and found a long length of a broken crow bar underneath the passenger seat.

The male passenger was transported back to Yoder’s location where a positive identification was made. Yoder also identified the crow bar as the weapon used in the robbery attempt.

As a result of the events the trio was transported to the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department for additional questioning. As of Tuesday afternoon charges had not yet been placed in the case. Investigation, however, is on-going.
