Cattle Stolen From Summertown Farm

Law enforcement officers were summoned to initiate an investigation Saturday after a Summertown farmer discovered cattle missing from his farm.

The victim, age 85, reported to Lawrence County Sheriff’s deputies that someone had driven his cattle through a fence, onto a neighboring farm. He said that once he got his cattle back into the proper pasture, he discovered that seven were missing. Four Beef Master cows and three Beef Master calves, valued at $6,300, had been stolen.

A neighbor reported he had seen two men at the farm on January 10. He said that they were driving a red Ford SUV and pulling a red cattle trailer with some type of logo on the front.

The neighbor told deputies he had stopped to speak with the men while they were loading one of the cows. One of the men, he said, told him they were working for the owner.

Investigation into the crime is currently continuing by detectives with the department’s Criminal Investigation Division. Anyone who has information pertinent to the investigation is urged to contact the department at 762-3626.
