Former Employee Files Lawsuit Against Board Of Education And Schools Director
A former employee of the local board of education has filed a lawsuit against both the Board and Director of Schools Dr. Bill Heath.
The lawsuit was filed in December by former employee Judy Campbell. She was laid off from her position at the board’s Central Office in October of last year. In the complaint she alleges that the loss of her job stemmed from difficulties between Heath and her husband, Jerry Campbell, who is a member of the school board.
The lawsuit alleges that Heath was upset by negative evaluations of his work that he had received from Jerry Campbell on three occasions. Jerry Campbell cast the sole dissenting vote during the board’s vote regarding the renewal of Heath’s contract in October of 2013. The lawsuit alleges that the loss of Judy Campbell’s job was in retaliation for these acts.
The suit names the board of education along with Dr. Heath in both his official capacity and individually. In the lawsuit Judy Campbell seeks either re-instatement to her job or front pay, back pay and loss of benefits, and attorney’s fees along with both compensatory and punitive damages.
